Our History

The Commercial Swimming Club, established in 1903, is Queensland's oldest and most successful swimming institution. Originally founded as the Ladies Commercial Amateur Swimming Club in November 1903, a men's division was introduced in 1913. The two clubs operated separately until their amalgamation in 1974.

Throughout its history, the club has been based at The Valley Pool in Fortitude Valley, Brisbane. Over the years, it has produced numerous elite swimmers who have represented Australia at prestigious international competitions, including the Olympic Games, World Championships, Commonwealth Games, and Pan Pacific Games. Notable athletes associated with the club include Susie O'Neill, Cate and Bronte Campbell, Kieren Perkins, and Libby Trickett.

The club's rich history is documented in various records, including minutes, agendas, and programs dating back to its early years. These records are preserved at the State Library of Queensland, ensuring that the legacy of the Commercial Swimming Club is accessible for future generations.

Today, the Commercial Swimming Club continues to uphold its tradition of excellence, offering comprehensive training programs for swimmers of all ages and abilities. With a focus on technique, strength, and performance, the club remains a cornerstone of competitive swimming in Queensland.
